James Cook enters the 2026 NFL season as Buffalo's clear lead back after leading the league with 1,621 rushing yards and adding 12 rushing touchdowns in 2025 on a career-high 309 carries. The Bills' offense under head coach Joe Brady features frequent red-zone involvement from quarterback Josh Allen, which has already limited Cook's scoring opportunities, as seen in Week 1 when he managed just 57 yards on 13 carries without a touchdown. Potential workload distribution with backups like Ray Davis and a recovering Ty Johnson, plus plans for more receiving work, could temper Cook's rushing volume over 17 games. His efficiency and the team's strong offensive line remain key supports for a competitive touchdown total, though short-week matchups and defensive fronts will influence opportunities.
