These moves, backed by Iran amid the wider U.S.-Iran conflict, have sustained a selective maritime embargo on Saudi-linked vessels declared in July and kept daily transits through the strait at reduced but functional levels of roughly 25–40 ships. Shipping data show the route remains open yet commercially unattractive for many operators, who continue diverting via the Cape of Good Hope. Trader assessments of closure dates therefore hinge on whether further Houthi territorial gains or escalation produce a sustained drop in transits to the low thresholds that would trigger market resolution, balanced against any diplomatic or military pushback that could stabilize flows.
