A.J. Brown’s ankle injury sustained early in the Patriots’ Week 1 loss to the Seahawks immediately clouds his 2026 regular-season reception outlook after he exited with three catches on four targets. Traded from Philadelphia in June, the three-time Pro Bowl wideout joined New England as the clear alpha receiver in an offense centered on second-year quarterback Drake Maye and reuniting with coach Mike Vrabel. Preseason projections centered on an elevated target share near 25 percent, positioning him for roughly 80–85 receptions over a full 17-game slate when healthy. The severity and recovery timeline of the right ankle issue will dictate whether Brown maintains his typical volume or sees reduced snaps and targets in the early weeks, directly shaping season-long totals in a Patriots passing game that otherwise features limited proven alternatives.
