Ongoing Russian hybrid threats, including repeated airspace violations and sabotage attempts targeting eastern flank members, remain the dominant driver of Article 4 considerations. Poland invoked the clause in September 2025 after Russian drones entered its airspace and were shot down, prompting NATO consultations and the launch of Operation Eastern Sentry for enhanced aerial surveillance. Estonia followed days later over fighter jet incursions. Subsequent incidents, such as drone activity affecting German airports in 2026 and Danish airport disruptions, led to internal discussions but no formal invocations, with allies favoring routine North Atlantic Council talks or existing defense measures instead. Heightened tensions from the Ukraine conflict continue to keep Baltic and Polish officials on alert for potential triggers, though consensus favors measured responses short of Article 5. NATO summits have reaffirmed Article 5 commitments while advancing collective defense enhancements through 2035 spending targets.

This market will resolve to "Yes" if any NATO member invokes Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty between market creation and the specified date 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, it will resolve to "No".
Article 4 is considered invoked as soon as a member formally requests consultations with NATO allies under Article 4, regardless of whether the request is later revoked.
For example, Poland's request for consultations on September 10, 2025, or Estonia's request on September 24, 2025 would each qualify for a "Yes" resolution.
If a member state only expresses intent to or is considering invoking Article 4, that alone does not suffice for a "Yes" resolution.
The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from NATO; authoritative statements from the requesting member government may also be used.
