Mayes Middleton leads the Texas Attorney General race with strong trader consensus due to Texas Republicans' consistent statewide dominance and his May 2026 runoff victory over Chip Roy for the open seat vacated by Ken Paxton. Middleton, a state senator backed by substantial self-funding and Trump-aligned positioning, benefits from the state's Republican lean despite polls showing a narrower gap than historical norms. Recent surveys through early September indicate Middleton ahead by low single digits with elevated undecided voters, while Democrat Nathan Johnson secured his party's nomination but faces structural headwinds in a general election. Libertarian Tom Oxford remains a minor factor. Upcoming debates and final polling before November 3 could still influence the outcome.
