India and Pakistan maintain tense relations marked by mutual accusations and limited direct military contact since their four-day air conflict and subsequent ceasefire in May 2025. The most recent development is a September 17 naval vessel collision in the Arabian Sea during Pakistani exercises, prompting both sides to summon diplomats and cite violations of the 1991 bilateral agreement on military maneuvers. India described the incident as unprofessional conduct in international waters, while Pakistan alleged aggressive actions in its exclusive economic zone. Earlier, India condemned Pakistan’s June 2026 airstrikes on Afghan territory as aggression threatening regional stability. Broader factors include the abeyance of the Indus Waters Treaty, downgraded diplomatic ties, and Pakistan’s recent border pact with China, which New Delhi rejected. These elements shape trader assessments of escalation risks without confirmed triggers for immediate Indian strikes.

For the purposes of this market, a qualifying "strike" is defined as the use of aerial bombs, drones, or missiles (including cruise or ballistic missiles) launched by Indian military forces that impact Pakistani territory (e.g., if an Indian missile or drone hits a target within Pakistan’s borders, this market will resolve to "Yes").
Missiles or drones that are intercepted before reaching Pakistani territory, as well as surface-to-air missile strikes, will not be sufficient for a "Yes" resolution regardless of whether debris lands on Pakistani soil or causes damage.
Actions such as artillery fire, small arms fire, FPV or ATGM strikes, ground incursions, naval shelling, cyberattacks, or any operation conducted by Indian ground forces will not qualify as a strike under this market.
The resolution source will be a consensus of credible reporting.
