India has since adopted a firmer posture, suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, downgrading diplomatic ties, and signaling greater willingness to target military infrastructure while discounting Pakistan's nuclear deterrence. Pakistan's June 2026 airstrikes in Afghanistan drew Indian condemnation as aggression undermining regional stability. Ongoing disputes over water projects, cross-border militancy, and military modernization on both sides continue to shape assessments of escalation risks. No major new strikes have occurred since 2025, though analysts note the potential for renewed conflict amid unresolved grievances and limited diplomatic channels.
