The Japan 10-year government bond yield, currently near 2.88%, reflects the Bank of Japan's ongoing policy rate normalization from 1% amid persistent inflation risks and yen weakness. Traders price a high probability of further 25-basis-point hikes this month and into 2027, driven by core CPI approaching or exceeding the 2% target, supply-chain pressures, and elevated import costs. Fiscal expansion under the Takaichi administration, including tax-cut proposals and higher defense spending, has added term-premium pressure and lifted yields from sub-2% levels earlier in the year. With the policy rate path and inflation trajectory as key swing factors, the market-implied distribution centers on 2.8%+ by year-end, consistent with analyst forecasts around 2.6–2.8% once seasonal and global rate dynamics are considered.
