Jalen Hurts enters the 2026-27 NFL season coming off a 2025 campaign in which he posted just eight rushing touchdowns and 421 yards on 105 carries, his lowest full-season totals since his rookie year amid reduced designed runs. The Eagles’ new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion has installed a Shanahan/McVay-influenced system featuring more under-center play-action, structured passing concepts, and decreased shotgun usage, with reports indicating Hurts’ rushing will remain part of the offense but not its centerpiece. Positive internal feedback from training camp suggests growing comfort with the scheme, while the presence of Saquon Barkley and a healthy offensive line provides balance that could limit short-yardage opportunities. Early-season usage against the Commanders and beyond will clarify whether designed quarterback runs and tush-push attempts rebound toward prior double-digit levels or stay suppressed.
