Christian McCaffrey enters the 2026 NFL season fully cleared for the 49ers' Week 1 opener against the Rams after offseason tightness proved to be planned maintenance rather than a setback. At age 30 and coming off a 2025 campaign with 102 receptions for 924 yards and seven receiving touchdowns, he remains the focal point of Kyle Shanahan's pass-heavy scheme that consistently targets running backs near the goal line. His 36 career receiving touchdowns tie the NFL record for the position, and continued high red-zone involvement plus volume in the receiving game could push him ahead early. Durability remains the key variable given his extensive injury history and heavy prior workloads, with any missed games or reduced targets likely to cap his total.
