Juwan Johnson enters the 2026 season coming off career highs of 77 receptions and 889 receiving yards in 2025, when he served as a primary target for the Saints amid injuries and roster flux. Tyler Shough, now the established starting quarterback, has praised Johnson's seam-stretching ability and yards-after-catch production. However, New Orleans added competition through free-agent signing Noah Fant and third-round rookie Oscar Delp at tight end, plus first-round wideout Jordyn Tyson, whose early-season hamstring injury has elevated Johnson's initial target share behind Chris Olave. The Saints' depth chart lists Johnson as the clear top tight end, but a more complete receiving corps and potential multiple-tight-end sets could compress his volume over 17 games. Week 1 at Detroit offers a favorable early matchup against a secondary missing key defenders.
