Jahmyr Gibbs enters the 2026 regular season as the Detroit Lions' undisputed lead back after David Montgomery's departure, which has increased his overall touch volume and goal-line work while preserving his established role as a pass-catching option out of the backfield. In 2025 he posted career highs of 77 receptions for 616 yards and five receiving touchdowns, building on prior seasons of consistent involvement in the Lions' high-powered offense. Contract incentives tied to receiving yards underscore the team's emphasis on his dual-threat usage, though new wide receiver additions and competition for targets from Amon-Ra St. Brown and others could affect checkdown and red-zone opportunities. Early Week 1 results showed four receptions for modest yardage without a receiving score amid a strong rushing outing.
