Recent naval friction in the Arabian Sea has heightened short-term escalation risks between India and Pakistan. On September 15, an Indian guided-missile destroyer and a Pakistani offshore patrol vessel collided during Pakistan’s SEASPARK-26 exercises, prompting mutual diplomatic protests and accusations of violating the 1991 bilateral agreement on military maneuvers. This marks the first direct military encounter since the four-day 2025 conflict, when India’s Operation Sindoor air strikes on terror infrastructure followed a Pahalgam attack and triggered Pakistani retaliation before a ceasefire. Broader strains persist from the suspended Indus Waters Treaty, frozen diplomacy, and limited military-to-military channels that have so far contained incidents. Traders weigh whether these frictions or any new trigger could prompt renewed Indian strikes before the market’s resolution window, against the precedent of rapid de-escalation after 2025.

For the purposes of this market, a qualifying "strike" is defined as the use of aerial bombs, drones, or missiles (including cruise or ballistic missiles) launched by Indian military forces that impact Pakistani territory (e.g., if an Indian missile or drone hits a target within Pakistan’s borders, this market will resolve to "Yes").
Missiles or drones that are intercepted before reaching Pakistani territory, as well as surface-to-air missile strikes, will not be sufficient for a "Yes" resolution regardless of whether debris lands on Pakistani soil or causes damage.
Actions such as artillery fire, small arms fire, FPV or ATGM strikes, ground incursions, naval shelling, cyberattacks, or any operation conducted by Indian ground forces will not qualify as a strike under this market.
The resolution source will be a consensus of credible reporting.
