Romania’s ongoing parliamentary deadlock since the May 2026 no-confidence vote that ousted the prior coalition has shaped trader views on the next confirmed prime minister. President Nicușor Dan’s earlier attempt to install an independent MEP as head of a technocratic cabinet collapsed when the nominee withdrew without securing support. A subsequent center-right political nominee from the National Liberal Party also failed a confidence vote. The latest designation, Siegfried Mureșan—a sitting PNL MEP backed by the PNL, USR, and UDMR—reflects parties’ preference for affiliated figures who can negotiate parliamentary backing, despite lacking a clear majority. Major parties, including the Social Democrats, have consistently rejected pure technocratic options in favor of political solutions or their own candidates, consistent with the 68.1% “No” pricing.
