Kyle Monangai enters the 2026 season as the clear No. 2 running back for the Chicago Bears behind D’Andre Swift in Ben Johnson’s run-friendly scheme. After a 2025 rookie campaign of 783 rushing yards on 169 carries, Monangai opened 2026 with 100 yards and a touchdown on 10 attempts in Week 1 against Carolina, though much came on a single 61-yard run in a blowout. Chicago added no other backs via free agency or the draft, signaling comfort with the Swift-Monangai tandem, and Monangai’s role expands meaningfully whenever Swift misses time. A training-camp knee injury limited his preseason but did not affect his Week 1 availability. The Bears’ offensive line and overall attack create favorable run lanes, while Swift’s contract status adds long-term context for workload shifts.
