In late August 2026, a Hague court issued interim measures directing India to maintain treaty obligations and pause certain hydropower work, a ruling New Delhi rejected amid accusations of water weaponization. Both sides continue military modernization, reference past operations such as India's 2025 strikes, and exchange diplomatic statements on terrorism and Kashmir. Scheduled multilateral forums like the SCO provide limited channels for engagement, while the absence of major cross-border incidents in recent months has kept escalation risks contained but sensitive to any new militant attacks or water-related announcements.
