The upcoming French Socialist primary, scheduled for October 9–10 with a potential runoff the following week, features a fragmented field of five candidates including Raphaël Glucksmann of Place Publique, Olivier Faure of the PS, Jérôme Guedj, Emmanuel Maurel of the GRS, and Ségolène Royal. Recent candidate validations and the exclusion of Philippe Brun amid allegations have not consolidated support behind any single contender. Internal party divisions, a closed electorate limited to dues-paying members and allies, and early indications of vote splitting among socialist and social-democratic factions point to a competitive first round. Trader consensus on a likely runoff reflects these structural and factional dynamics ahead of the October voting window.
