South Dakota's longstanding Republican dominance in federal contests, with no Democratic congressional win since 2008, underpins trader consensus favoring Marty Jackley at 94.5% for the open at-large House seat. Jackley, the state attorney general, secured the GOP nomination in June 2026 with nearly 80% of the primary vote and benefits from the party's strong statewide environment on issues such as public safety and energy. Democratic nominee Nikki Gronli, who advanced unopposed, faces structural headwinds in a solidly Republican district rated safe by major forecasters. An independent candidate adds limited competition. Late developments such as scandals or turnout shifts remain the primary variables that could narrow the gap before the November 3 general election.
