Recent polls ahead of Berlin’s September 20 state election show the CDU narrowly leading or tied with the Left Party at 19–21 percent, followed by the AfD and Greens clustered around 15–18 percent, with the SPD further back. The governing CDU-SPD coalition lacks a majority in current projections, and the contest remains fragmented among five parties near the five-percent threshold. The CDU’s switch to new lead candidate Stefan Evers after Kai Wegner stepped aside, combined with investigations involving the SPD’s Steffen Krach, has contributed to volatility. Traders appear to price in Berlin’s urban demographics and potential late momentum for the Greens under Werner Graf, even as surveys indicate the CDU currently holds an edge in direct head-to-head vote share. Upcoming final-week campaigning and turnout patterns among younger and progressive voters could still shift the narrow gap between the two parties.
